Following a six-month internship at LSCE in France, Ingrid Lykke, who is completing her Master’s degree in Contaminated Sites and Soils at the University of Orléans, and Benjamin Delvincourt, who is completing his Master’s degree in Environmental Dynamics and Risk at Paris-Cité University, have both been awarded funding from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) to spend the summer (“Summer Programme”) in Japan, from mid-June to mid-August 2026. Ingrid is reconstructing the impact of forest fires on erosion in the Tohoku region based on the analysis of lacustrine sedimentary records. She will be hosted by Prof. Takahashi of Tohoku University. Benjamin has adapted a soil erosion model (WaterSed) developed by the French National Geological Survey to simulate the impact of forest fires on this process in northern Japan. He will continue the simulations this summer and will be hosted by Prof. Wakiyama at Fukushima University.
